Broken Bow area...

A co-worker and myself are down in southeast Oklahoma this week. We have been to a few places to eat. The Oaks and Pier 49 in Broken Bow, which were average and nothing special.

We went up north a little to Hochatown to a place strongly recommended by some locals called Steven's Gap. I think people in smaller towns think something there just might be "the best", when compared to other areas it isn't that special at all. That is how I feel about that place.

We went to Roma's in Idabel on Tuesday and went back there again tonight for a second visit. We were impressed both times at the quality of food and the fast service.

The Italian food was delicious, and I would recommend it. I didn't have much expectations...same old story of an attempt at Italian food by some smaller town. I was definitely surprised at how good it was. The spaghetti was great. The Italian Sausage was real Italian Sausage. Just really good true Italian food!

On our way down to Broken Bow, we stopped in Hochatown at an interesting looking diner that said "Now Open". The name of this place was Vinnie's Diner, which had only been open for a few months. You get to listen to some 50's music while you enjoy some delicious food. Their menu mostly consists of sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers...but I enjoyed their chicken strips and dipping sauces. My co-worker said they had the best onion rings with one of their many hot dogs. As a side note, when they talk about "big daddy" portions on their menu...they are serious. They have large servings of food, so you won't leave hungry at all! A hidden gem about 10 miles north of Broken Bow by Beavers Bend.
